Lifecycles

BIRTH

Beth Emeth is a beautiful site in which to celebrate at brit milah (bris, ritual circumcision). Generally, this ceremony, which welcomes a boy into the covenant of Israel, takes place on the eighth day of the baby's life. Our preferred mohel in the community is Dr. Aubie Diamond (905-889-2517 or aubster@rogers.com). He and has worked with our synagogue frequently over the years. Often, the brit milah takes place in the morning shortly after services. Members of the family are invited to attend services and receive honour and acknowledgement. Traditionally, a brit milah can take place any time during the day.

Baby girls may be named in a number of different formats. It is a long-standing custom to name the baby girl at a Torah reading service, which takes place on Shabbat morning, Shabbat afternoon, Monday and Thursday mornings, Rosh Chodesh mornings and Holy Days.

Alternatively, families may celebrate a private ceremony known as a simchat bat, rejoicing over the newborn daughter. These ceremonies may take place accompanied by a celebratory meal or independently.

For all of the above, the Rabbi should be contacted first. Bookings are made through the synagogue office.

WEDDING & AUFRUF

Beth Emeth offers a beautiful venue for celebrating a wedding. Bookings are made through the synagogue office but must be approved by the rabbi prior to booking. Subsequently, the couple should contact the rabbi to meet and discuss the many customs and traditions associated with the wedding ceremony and opportunities to personalize their service.

Our  renovated rooms are spacious yet intimate. Beth Emeth can accommodate events from 10-350 people. In addition to our beautiful ballroom, we have a large spacious foyer adjacent to the hall. DIVORCE

When a couple contemplates the necessity of divorce, they must adhere to the requirements of Jewish divorce in addition to civil divorce. In Jewish law, a get (Jewish divorce) must be arranged between the husband and wife. The Rabbi can offer guidance, support, and provide direction regarding the get process.
