Holocaust Education Week Announcement 2022
Holocaust Education Week Announcement 2022
From where I sit….
There was a great deal of commotion at Beth Emeth on Wednesday, and for a very good reason. Our synagogue, long a champion of Holocaust Education initiatives was chosen as the site for a very special announcement by Ontario’s Education Minister, Stephen Lecce. Standing in front of our own Edelstein Children’s Garden, which memorializes the young lives snuffed out by the Shoah, the Minister announced the long-awaited implementation of mandatory Holocaust Education starting in grade 6. Until now, Holocaust studies began only as part of the grade 10 curriculum.
We were proud to host our member and Ontario Solicitor General, Michael Kerzner, along with a number of MPPs; survivors Nate Leipciger and Andy Reti; leadership from the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center; Marilyn Sinclair, founder of Liberation 75, as well as staff and students from neighbouring schools for this landmark announcement which, fittingly took place on the 84th anniversary of Kristallnacht.
Kol hakavod to everyone involved in this critical initiative.
