Summary
Shalom Everyone,
After another week of schooling@home and the letdown of this most recent lockdown, I am read for Shabbat. Spending time with the family and keeping it a laid-back day is a welcome respite from the craziness of the world right now. With so much uncertainty, it can be hard to stay grounded.
Thankfully, this Sunday is FULL of amazing opportunity for connection.
Sunday MORNING is the second Sunday Funday. Join us for weekly skating with the Beth Emeth and Adath Israel communities, Sunday mornings at 11am at Chapley Rink. Bring your family and bring your friends! This week we will be providing Hot Chocolate after skating!
Sunday AFTERNOON is the Israel Program Fair. Teens, Young Adults and Families are invited to learn about many different Israel summer and year-long programs. This is together with the Israel Fund, Federation, and BEBY NEXTgen.
Sunday NIGHT is Tu BiShvat, where we look to nature for inspiration in our lives. Even in the midst of winter, as the trees look dead and bare, deep down in the ground their roots are drawing from the dew below the surface and is preparing for the growth and renewal of springtime. We have an amazing Tu BiShvat Seder experience planned for Sunday night. Don't forget to register.
Unit 2 of this year's B'nai Mitzvah Experience starts NEXT Sunday.Kids (and their families) whose B'nai Mitzvah are coming in the next year can still register to join us!
We are also partnering with USY for the March Break USY Canada National Convention!

Parshat BeShalach
This week we read about the Israelites crossing the Reed Sea and the Egyptians being drowned as the water came crashing back down. In that moment of freedom Moshe and Israel erupted into spontaneous song, singing about the miracle they had just experienced and the opportunites that their new found freedom had to offer.
When we get really excited, we all react differently. Some people may jump up and down, others may scream, cheer and holler, and others may sing and dance. When we feel big emotions, our bodies need to express those emotions.
Now that Moshe and the Israelites didn't have the heavy burden of Egyptian slavery keeping them tied down, and keeping their voices silent, instead they let loose to sing and dance. It is because of that song, that this Shabbat is called Shabbat Shira - the Shabbat of Song.
Let's all find a song this week that will help us truly express everything we are each feeling inside.
Discussion Questions:
1. When you get really excited what do you do? 2. Why do you think Moshe and Israel sang, and not something else? 3. What is your favorite song and why?
Questions and Answers from Last Week:
1. What situations in life make you feel trapped? When I'm in line at the store and just have to stand there and wait.
2. How do you make sure to remember that you are free? I try my best to always learn a least one little bit of Torah everyday that is just for me, and not for any class, dvar Torah or article.
3. If you were free to do anything you wanted, what would you do and why? I would spend more time with people, learning more about them and from them.
4. Is there something holding you back from doing what you want? Is it there to keep you trapped or to help you become more free? Why does it make a difference? Thankfully, as part of my work I have the opportunity to do a lot of the things that I love. I always feel more free when I am giving my full attention to another person, but I also find that I am often distracted by how much there is to do. Those distractions definitely trap me from connecting as much as I'd like, but also make sure that I am always thinking about what is next. So, while the destraction holds me back, it also can help me move forward.
