The last Shabbat of the year is here! Next week, on Monday night, we welcome the new year 5782.
The program for Rosh Hashanah this year is really going to be uplifting and meaningful. I've been working hard preparing a transformative service, while also making sure that there will be fun and engaging kids programming throughout the mornings, and an outdoor opportunity to hear shofar.
While the in-person registration is now closed, both the service and the programs are going to be livestreamed, so at home or in shul, we can all be together as a community.
The Young Family livestream links will be made available in advance of Rosh Hashanah on the Beth Emeth website at www.beby.org.
As we celebrate this last Shabbat, let's all think about our actions from this last year, and take the time to consider how we want to act in the year ahead.
Shanah Tova to the whole community. May we all have a year health, happiness, success, and sweetness, in all aspects of our lives.
K'tiva V'Chatima Tova! May we all be signed and sealed in the book of Life and Goodness. SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE PROGRAMMING INFORMATION!
Parshat Nitzvaim - All Together
Nitzavim means "gathered together". When Moshe says this word, he says Atem nitzavim hayom koolchem - you are ALL gathered TOGETHER today.
While koolechem - all of you - refers to each person within the nation being gathered together, it could also mean "with all of your 'selves' being gathered together. As we approach Rosh Hashanah, think about the different parts of yourself from this last year: How did you speak? What are some of the best things you did? What are some of the worst things? What did you like most about yourself? What did you like least? How much do I want to observe Rosh HaShanah? How much do I want to be somewhere else?
Nitzavim always comes on the last Shabbat of the year as a reminder that when we come together to stand in front of HaShem on Rosh HaShanah, we should each be there, not only all together as a group, but with all parts of ourselves standing together in front of Hashem.
Discussion Questions:
Why is it important to be together with our community?
Why is it important to be together with every part of our selves?
Which parts of your self do you love? Which parts of yourself will you try to improve?
Shabbat Shalom!
Do know a Jewish student starting university in Ontario this fall?
Hillel Ontario, your home for Jewish campus life, will send them a welcome gift package! We will also enroll them in our newsletters so they don’t miss out on Jewish programming, opportunities to make new friends and other great events.
Let Hillel welcome your first year student to campus before they even arrive.
