Shalom Everyone,
"When it rains, it pours." As we approach our second Covid summer, with the uncertainty that still exists, and as potential summer plans start to unfold, and as we try to keep the kids motivated in virtual education, I feel like everything is happening all at once. Not only that, due to distancing protocols, many of the "normal" support networks don't funtion as we'd hope.
We all know the idea that "it takes a village" to raise our kids, and there is so much guidance and wisdom that Torah and Judaism can offer us. More than that, we each have different strengths and approaches to keeping our kids happy, while maintaining our mental health, and WE ALL HAVE WHAT TO CONTRIBUTE.
Parenting isn't easy and "pandemic parenting", while now 15 months old, seems to be a never-ending opportunity to refine ourselves and our approach to helping our kids grow and flourish through this unique time in history. THIS TUESDAY, JUNE 1st, join me at 9pm for an interactive conversation about parenting called "IT TAKES A VILLAGE". I will bring some Jewish sources, and together we will explore how they relate to our own parenting practices. Register Here! BNAI MITZVAH FAMILIES, Mazal Tov to all of you and to the amazing 18 participants in our Bnai Mitzvah program this past year. TORAH TALK FOR THE TABLE with Rabbi David
Parshat BEHA'ALOTCHA - Growing Up
The parshah this week starts with HaShem directing Aharon, the Kohen Gadol - the Great Priest to "draw up" the radiant lights (nerot) of the Menorah.
The wisest of all people, King Shlomo taught that Ner HaShem Nishmat Adam - the Radiant Light of God is the Soul of Humanity. The directive to "draw up" that light is something that we are all trying to achieve for ourselves and the world around us.
As we all hope to grow up and be better people, and as we all hope for a better world, of Peace and Unity, let's take the opportunity to "draw up" our own radiant light and to shine brightly. When we are all uplifting each other, that is when we can truly grow up.
Questions for Discussion: 1. Why do you think the Torah says "to elevate", instead of to "light" the Menorah lights?
2. What do you think it means that the Human Soul is the Light of HaShem?
BNAI MITZVAH FAMILIES, Mazal Tov to all of you and to the amazing 18 participants in our Bnai Mitzvah program this past year. SEE THE FLYERfor information about the GOURMET PIZZA CLOSING DINNER: ENDINGS AND BEGINNINGS with Rabbi Morrison and Rabbi David
