Shalom Everyone,
Sunday is MOTHER'S DAY! Even though the Torah tells us to honour and recognize our mothers and the support they offer us every day of our lives, we should never miss an opportunity to show them our appreciation.
We sold New Guinea Impatiens hanging flower baskets both to honour our mothers and to raise some money for additional NEXTgen programming and we are so excited about the result. We sold over 100 flower baskets and, with a generous donation to cover our costs, we raised almost $2000 toward additional NEXTgen initiatives!
Thank you to everyone who chose to honour your mothers, while also supporting your community! DON'T FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR FLOWERS TODAY BETWEEN 12 and 2 pm.
In sadder news, members of the NEXTgen community suffered the loss of their grandmother and great-grandmother this past week. Our heartfelt condolences go out to David and Jennifer Greenspan, David and Lauren Topp, Joshua, Lia, Olivia and Ben, on the passing of Rose Greenspan, ob"m (of blessed memory). We wish you all good memories, long life, and good health!

TORAH TALK FOR THE TABLE with Rabbi David
Parshat BEHAR/BECHUKOTAI - Mount Sinai Today
The double parshah this Shabbat begins and ends with the words "Behar Sinai - at Mount Sinai". This week, we also finish the third book of the Torah, Vayikra. The famous commentator Rashi explains that the Torah has to remind us that everything that was described in the whole book of Vayikra was also taught at the foot of Mount Sinai and was an important part of receiving the Torah (which we will celebrate in just a couple of weeks on Shavuot).
While Mount Sinai is the physical place where we received the Torah from HaShem in the past, it is also taught that even today a voice calls out from Sinai and teaches us each the Torah. The Torah, in this week's parshah describes for us the benefits of listening closely and hearing the voice of Sinai today, and the consequences when we forget that to listen.
According to our sages, listening to the voice of Sinai is about looking for meaning in even the most simple things and asking ourselves the question "what am I supposed to learning from this experience/situation?" When we ask that question, we will see incredible benefit in our lives. The Torah also describes that when we don't look for that deeper meaningfulness in life, it leads to a harder life and existence.
We always need to remember that even though we are currently far away from the physical Mount Sinai, we still receive the Torah from Sinai to this very day.
Questions for Discussion:
1. Where were Bnai Yisrael when this week's double portion was first taught to them? 2. What are one positive and one negative experience you have with "cause and effect"? 3. Why is it important to look for meaning in every situation? 4. Why do you think challenges in life are meaningful?
UNIT ONE, Connecting to Israel and how that impacts Jewish Identity was amazing. You can watch the recorded programs here . UNIT TWO, The Mitzvah in Bnai Mitzvah is now complete. It was an amazing learning experience for everyone who attended. Videos will be uploaded shortly.
STARTING THIS WEEK - SUNDAY, APRIL 18th!!! UNIT 3 - OUR JEWISH COMMUNITY!!!!
