Shalom Everyone,
We are now in the time of the Omer, counting toward Shavuot and our receiving the Torah. The Omer is also a time period of personal growth. Just like at Passover we started by talking about slavery and moving to freedom, during the Omer we start with commemoration and move to celebration.
This past Wednesday night and Thursday we commemorated Yom HaSho'ah - Holocaust Remembrance Day. This coming Tuesday night and Wednesday we commemorate Yom HaZikaron, remembering and honouring all those who have given their lives for Israel, and then on Wednesday night and Thursday we CELEBRATE!!! THIS WEEK WE CELEBRATE YOM HA'ATZMA'UT - ISRAEL'S INDEPENDENCE DAY!!! THIS SUNDAY @ 5:30pm join MARK WEINSTOCK for a KIDS YOM HA'ATZMA'UT CELEBRATION!!! I'll be there and hope to see you there as well!
On April 18, at 4pm BEBY Families will focus on protecting the Earth during an EARTH DAY PAINTING EXPERINCE. We will learn about Jewish views on Ecological Sustainability, and simple ways that we can all have a major impact. PAINT KITS ARE AVAILABLE TO REGISTERED. If you missed the registration, there are a VERY LIMITED number of extras that we ordered. Please email me directly to find out if you can still arrange for a pre-ordered paint kit.
SEE THE FLYER BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION.
There is also an amazing opportunity for pre-teens (8-12) to meet popular authors in our MEET THE AUTHOR series, together with Adath Israel, Beth David and Beth Tikvah.
This is an amazing program and our kids should really take advantage of it, if possible. The next one is THIS WEDNESDAY, April 14th. See the flyer below!
THERE ARE NEW PROGRAMS FOR ALMOST ALL OF THE NEXTGEN COMMUNITY. CHECK OUT THE LIST ABOVE AND THE FLYERS BELOW!!!

TORAH TALK FOR THE TABLE with Rabbi David
Parshat Shemini - Commemoration and Celebration
In the parshah this week, the nation of Israel is celebrating the building of the Mishkan - the house for HaShem in the desert. Moshe is teaching Aaron and his sons how to serve as the Cohanim - priests. Two of Aaron's sons, Nadav and Avihu get too excited and don't follow the rules, and it costs them their lives.
HaShem tells Aaron that it wasn't a punishment for them, and that they were truly extremely holy people who are teaching us all a lesson:
We should all care and be excited about the things we do in the world, but we are still responsible for our actions. If our excitement causes us to accidentally hurt someone else, it is so important that we find out how to do better next time.
Aharon heard HaShem and was silent. He understood that there are times to celebrate and times to commemorate, and even as he was commemorating the memory of two of his sons, he was celebrating that they loved serving HaShem.
Questions for Discussion:
1. How do you think Aharon HaCohen felt after his sons died and after HaShem explained what happened? 2. Have you every accidentally hurt someone? What happened? 3. If you make a mistake, how do you try and make it better? 4. Why do you think that punishments are used when people do the wrong things?
