Shalom Everyone,
I hope everyone is feeling free this Pesach. Even with the most current lockdown announcement, Pesach is a time where we recognize that we are free in this world and that HaShem is the one who grants us that freedom.
This Shabbat is the 7th day of Pesach and so there isn't a regular Torah reading. Instead, we read the special reading for the 7th day of Pesach, which is the story of the splitting of the Sea of Reeds (often misascribed to the Red Sea). See more in the Torah Talk for the Table Section, below.
This is the second pandemic Pesach experience. Last year we had no idea what to expect of the pandemic. This year, there is still a lot that is uncertain. We may feel trapped by the Covid restrictions for all this time, to the point where there is even a sense of normalcy with the way things are. And yet, there is also the sense, that there is an end to the pandemic, and we are moving toward a sense of freedom.
Just as we move into freedom on Pesach, we also have to work to protect those freedoms. On April 18, at 4pm BEBY Families will focus on protecting the Earth during an EARTH DAY PAINTING EXPERINCE. We will learn about Jewish views on Ecological Sustainability, and simple ways that we can all have a major impact. PAINT KITS ARE AVAILABLE but you MUST REGISTER HERE before MARCH 31 to reserve your paint kit. See the flyer below.
If you missed the registration, there are a VERY LIMITED number of extras that we ordered. Please email me directly to find out if you can still arrange for a pre-ordered paint kit.
There is also an amazing opportunity for pre-teens (8-12) to meet popular authors in our MEET THE AUTHOR series, together with Adath Israel, Beth David and Beth Tikvah.
The first author was MARCH 31. The program was incredible. Both of my kids were engaged the whole time, learned how to draw and even how to start creating their own characters and stories.
To watch the recording of the first session and for more information about part 2, THIS WEDNESDAY, April 7th, see the flyer below!

TORAH TALK FOR THE TABLE with Rabbi David
Pesach Day 7 - Sing, Sing a song.
The whole story of leaving Egypt is full of miracles, from the burning bush, to the 10 plagues, and the splitting of the sea. But only after HaShem splits the sea, do Moshe and the Israelites sing a song. What was special about the splitting of the sea? Why didn't we sing a song for the 10 plagues? Why didn't we sing a song when we left Egypt?
The burning bush, the plagues, and even the leaving from Egypt were all entirely driven by Hashem. Moshe did the talking, but HaShem did everything else.
At the splitting of the sea, it was different. HaShem tells us "Don't cry-out to me, but just Go!" It was our faith and our actions that caused the sea to split. A midrash teaches that it was only when Nachshon ben Aminadav (the leader of the Tribe of Judah and Miriam the Prophetess's husband) walked into the water up to his nose, did the sea eventually split.
God wants US to act. HaShem wants us to trust and have faith in the process of life, so that we don't rely on miracles. The greatest miracle, according to the Torah, is our ability to positiviely impact the world through our actions.
Questions for Discussion:
When do you like to sing songs?
Have you ever made up a song? How did you feel after you sang your song?
What is something you have done that had a positive impact on the world?
This is a great family event for Earth Day. There are a few extra paint kits, but we can not guarantee availability as the registration deadline has passed (though you can still participate with your own supplies). If you would still like to register, please email me directly, ASAP!
KELLY is an amazing teacher and artist from our community.

Treat yourself to a visit to the wackiest restaurant ever! Ten-year-old Shoshi and her eight-year-old brother, Moshe, arrive in New York in 1898 from Russia with their mother and Snigger, the baby dragon that saved them from an attack by Cossack soldiers. Five years earlier, their father had also come to New York to make his fortune, but no one has heard from him since. Through a series of adventures and misadventures, Shoshi and Moshe use their wits to navigate through New York City's Lower East Side, making new friends and even a few foes: Salty, the seaman who helps the family smuggle Snigger through Ellis Island; Aloysius P. Thornswaddle, carnival barker extraordinaire; Dingle Hinglehoffer, pitcher for the Brooklyn Slobbers; and the mysterious Man in the Black Cape. With the help of Snigger, they set out to solve the mystery behind their father's disappearance, helping to free the Lower East Side from the tyrannical rule of gangster Nick the Stick along the way. Mrs. Kaputnik's Pool Hall and Matzo Ball Emporium is a colorful tale that blends history and fantasy with a journey of discovery, adventure, and fun
