Shalom Everyone,
This Shabbat is known as Shabbat HaGadol - the great Shabbat. It is the last Shabbat before Pesach - before we are freed from everything that is holding us back. It is a time to reflect on all the habits that are holding us back from who we want to be.
On Pesach, as we go through each stage of the Passover Seder, we should not only be telling the story of the Israelites leaving Egypt 3300 years ago but also be telling ourselves the story of our own freedom, as we leave our constraints behind.
This is the second pandemic Pesach experience. Last year we had no idea what to expect of the pandemic. This year, there is still a lot that is uncertain. We may feel trapped by the Covid restrictions for all this time, to the point where there is even a sense of normalcy with the way things are. And yet, there is also the sense, that there is an end to the pandemic, and we are moving toward a sense of freedom.
Just as we move into freedom on Pesach, we also have to work to protect those freedoms. On April 18, at 4pm BEBY Families will focus on protecting the Earth during an EARTH DAY PAINTING EXPERINCE. We will learn about Jewish views on Ecological Sustainability, and simple ways that we can all have a major impact. PAINT KITS ARE AVAILABLE but you MUST REGISTER HERE before MARCH 31 to reserve your paint kit. See the flyer below.
There is also an amazing opportunity for pre-teens to meet popular authors in our MEET THE AUTHOR series, together with Adath Israel, Beth David and Beth Tikvah. The first author is MARCH 31. See the flyer below for more information.

TORAH TALK FOR THE TABLE with Rabbi David
Tzav - The Great Connection The word Tzav can mean a commandment, but it can also mean a connection. In the parshah there is a specific connection to Pesach. The Cohanim, who worked in the Temple in Jerusalem were supposed to eat MATZAH!
Matzah, is called a bread of humility. No extra fluff allowed; it is pure, simple and straight to the point. For a Cohen to properly serve HaShem and the Nation of Israel, they had to be like Matzah. They had to feel so connected to every person who came to the Temple and they had to feel so connected to HaShem, that they became like Matzah - simple and straight to the point.
We too, especially at Pesach, are supposed to act like Matzah. Like the Cohanim, we are supposed to recognize and connect to our own personal value, while also feeling connected to every Jew - as we all left Egypt together, and feeling connected to HaShem, who took us out of mitzrayim!
Questions for Discussion:
Have you every felt trapped and then got free? What did that feel like?
If Matzah represents humility and connection, then what does bread/chametz represent? Why?
