This week is PURIM!!! I'm really excited. Even though this year is different - no major carnival with blow-ups and bouncy castles, Purim itself is such a fun day!

If you feel like this year will be hard to get into the purim spirit, it is important to remember that the Shabbat before Purim is called SHABBAT ZACHOR. On Shabbat Zachor, we remember Amalek, the nation that is always seeking to destroy the Jewish people and cause us to doubt HaShem and ourselves. We must always remember that there are people and circumstances that make us want to "give-up". We read Zachor to remind ourselves, that in a moment, everything can change and we can and will emerge victorious, even from the worst ememies. It is the best reason to party hard this Purim, virtually with your shul community and with your own family! THERE IS A MITZVAH TO HEAR PARSHAT ZACHOR READ FROM THE TORAH. Tune into the Beth Emeth livestream on Shabbat morning at 10:15 to make sure you hear it!
CHECK OUT THE NEW SECTION BELOW FOR EVERYTHING PURIM!!!

TORAH TALK FOR THE TABLE with Rabbi David
Terumah - It's In You To Give
"It's In You To Give" is a line from Canadian Blood Services, as they look for donors.
Our Torah reading is all about the nation of Israel contributing to the Mishkan - the place where people would gather to connect with HaShem on a national level.
The Torah calls the donors "nediv lev" - givers of their heart. That is, everyone who gave, really wanted to give. They considered what was important and decided that the most important and valuable place to contribute their time, skills, and resources, was to a communal spiritual centre.
Questions for Discussion:
What are different ways that you can give?
What is the most important thing in the world to you? Is it a personal thing or a community thing?
What are three different ways that you can help and contribute to that most important thing?
UNIT ONE, Connecting to Israel and how that impacts Jewish Identity was amazing. You can watch the recorded programs here . UNIT TWO, The Mitzvah in Bnai Mitzvah is now complete. It was an amazing learning experience for everyone who attended. Videos will be uploaded shortly. As a recap: January 24, 10am - Protecting Our World January 31, 10am - All about Shabbat February 7, 10am - Take a Trip Inside a Torah Scroll and Inside Tefillin Boxes February 14, 10am - Everything you need to know about Jewish History in 20 minutes and Becoming a Responsible
We are now looking ahead to Unit 3, about Our Jewish Community, which will take place in the spring. Watch this space.
You can still register your kids for the rest of this year's Bnai Mitzvah Experience.
If you have a child who recently had, or is about to have their Bar or Bat Mitzvah, this program is for you. It will be fun, experiential, educational, engaging, thought provoking and will give your Bnai Mitzvah kids a real sense of connection to our local and broader Jewish community. Sign up here!
