Hey Everyone,
I hope you all had a good week. The Covid world is a crazy place and I know it isn't always easy. Plans are always changing: work space is changing from at the office to home and back, hoping that everyone you know is staying healthy, and praying that anyone who is having health issues recover quickly and completely. I'll relate this to the parshah below in this weeks Torah Talk For The Table.
I'm obviously happy to hear if you are doing well, but for anyone who might be struggling in any way, please do not hesitate to reach out. My phone is on 24/7 and I will answer if I can.
As a community we are all here to support each other. If you need an ear to listen, help finding resources and other supports your families need, please don't hesitate. TORAH TALK FOR THE TABLE with Rabbi David
Chayei Sarah
This parshah is called "The Life of Sarah" or Chayei Sarah in Hebrew. However, it starts by telling us that Sarah died. It then continues to tell us about the funeral preparations, finding a wife for Isaac, and finally about Avraham's death and burial. This is all very strange for a parshah that is about the life of Sarah.
The Torah is teaching us a valuable lesson about our own lives. So often we act for today: the things we do today will impact the world we live in. Sarah though, wasn't only worried about the world she lived in, but she also thought about the world that would exist after she died.
Everything we do and every word we say will have an impact on the world around us, and can even reach far beyond our immediate surroudings.
Discussion Questions
Where in your life can you impact other people?
What is something you do that affects others in a good way?
Do you always see the result of things you do?
Can you give an example of something you did that you won't ever see the impact?
In this section we will be including programs, articles, links, and updates from our community members. It is one way we can all support each other - as a community!
