IN THIS ISSUE: Message and Announcements from Rabbi David - Simchat Torah at BEBY Torah Talk for your Table Upcoming Events for the BEBY NEXTgen Community - includes all age groups NEW SECTION - BEBY NEXTgen Community Connection
Hey Everyone,
I love Sukkot and spent as much time as possible in my sukkah. It is by-far my favorite part of the High Holidays. How about you? What was your favorite part of this High Holiday season so far?
BUT WAIT! There's more.
This weekend, Shabbat and Sunday, are the REAL conclusion of the High Holidays. Shabbat is also Shmini Atzeret - an extra eighth day attached to Sukkot (though not Sukkot) which stops (atzor) the High Holiday season.
Here, outside of Israel, Shmini Atzeret is a two day holiday and on the second day, Sunday, we celebrate Simchat Torah.
This year, due to Covid, Simchat Torah is nothing like what we are used to. We can't dance together or even sing loudly together, and we can't pass a Torah from person to person. The immense sense of community that we always feel ESPECIALLY on Simchat Torah will be sorely missed this year. No kids running around and no stuffies hanging over the railings. My kids are super upset about it.
During days that are Zman Simchateinu - times of joy, we must do things differently to maintain that joy.
Also, after shul, at around 12:30pm there will be an OUTDOOR TORAH READING (weather permitting).
The joy of Simchat Torah is that we finish the Torah and immediately start again at the beginning. JOIN US IN THE SHUL PARKING LOT to hear the whole final parashah, V'Zot HaBerachah - וזאת הברכה, and the re-starting with Bereisheet - בראשית.

TORAH TALK FOR THE TABLE with Rabbi David
V'Zot HaBerachah
The LAST parshah of the Torah is blessings that Moshe gives to each tribe, about how to best use their strengths and personalities to best serve HaShem, as we enter into the land of Israel and beyond. The Torah ends with the passing of Moshe Rabbeinu - Moses our Teacher, and pays great honour and respect to his unique role in the world, as a teacher who empowers each one of us be our best.
V'Zot Habrachah is always read on Simchat Torah and is followed by beginning Bereishit - the FIRST parshah in the Torah.
As we come out of the High Holidays, Moshe blesses us to be our best and the Torah then reminds us that we can always create a new beginning, starting over if things have gone wrong, or even to start something new.
Discussion Questions
Who was Moshe Rabbeinu to you?
What is your favorite part of the Torah?
Do you prefer endings or beginnings?
Why do you think we start at the beginning IMMEDIATELY after finishing the end?
