TORAH TALK FOR THE TABLE with Rabbi David
ROSH HASHANAH On Rosh Hashanah we read all about Avraham and his two sons.
On the first day we read about the birth of Yitzchak. Yishma'el, the older son, is wild and violent and keeps trying to hurt his baby brother. Avraham sends Yishmael away to protect Yitzchak, even though he is really sad to see him go.
On the second day we read the famous story where Hashem tests Avraham to see how far he will go to follow HaShem and how much he is willing to protect his child, no matter what.
HaShem teaches Avraham about the importance of protecting his children, and taking care of other people in general, no matter what.
The Torah is teaching US that taking care of HaShem's children is the most important thing. We are here to take care of each other and to help make sure everyone is as safe and healthy as possible.
