About Dr. Gebien:
Dr. Darryl Gebien is a former emergency physician as well as a former federal inmate. His incarceration was precipitated by a growing opioid habit. After an unintentional, near-death opioid overdose and tumultuous journey through several drug rehabilitation programs, Dr. Gebien successfully conquered his drug demons and catapulted himself into a life of joyous and productive healthy living. The experiences of active addiction, opioid detox, early recovery and incarceration helped galvanize his personal strength and resolve to share his cautionary tale and to lead by example. He is nationally recognized as a medical professional who has the unique lived experience background necessary to develop evidence-based solutions to the opioid crisis.
