Councillor Pasternak was elected to City Council in 2010 and recently re-elected as City Councillor for the new expanded Ward 6, York Centre. He is the current Chair of the Community Development and Recreation Committee and sits on the Mayor’s Executive Committee.

While in office, he has been committed to fiscal responsibility while simultaneously investing and championing improvements to communities. This includes supporting the grass-roots Ward 10 Round-table on Emergency Preparedness, improvements to city parks, sewer and stormwater management, recreation programs, public realm projects, public transit and road infrastructure throughout York Centre. He has also hosted numerous community meetings on topics such as transit, community safety, affordable housing and budgeting priorities.

Before becoming a City Councillor, Councillor Pasternak was elected as a Toronto District School Board Trustee, leading community initiatives and seeing the establishment of Toronto's only Afrocentric Alternative School. Councillor Pasternak has earned degrees from the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Western Ontario and York.
