Irving and I were married at Beth Emeth in 1971, and we have been members for over 30 years. I have served since 2007 as Vice President and Chairman of the Board. I have been Chair of the Membership Development Steering Committee which oversees 25 synagogue committees. Prior to that I served as the Executive Board Secretary.

I helped organize the 50th Anniversary Jubilee Dinner, the 3 Yakir Hakahal Honouree Dinners, and. I have served on the Out-Of-The-Cold Steering Committee and as Special Events Chair. I have helped facilitate in the Chai Shalom Group, and was a member of the Volunteer Recognition Committee and a member of the Assistant Rabbi's Search Committee.  I have been honoured as BEBY's “Volunteer of the Year".

I also serve the Jewish community as a Board member of Canadian Friends of Boys Town Jerusalem, and have been affiliated with the Jewish National Fund, Paul Penna Downtown Jewish Day School and Zareinu.

I am truly committed to our synagogue, and I believe that working from the past gives us the vision to see Beth Emeth as the synagogue of the future reaching out to our membership wherever they are.

Lorie Goldfinger | Chairman of the Board/Vice President

My immediate family have been congregants since my marriage to my wife Anne 36 years ago in Beth Emeth and my parents have been congregants for over 45 years. We are proud parents of our three married daughters. I am an owner of a successful manufacturer, importer and distributor of a family owned and operated men's and ladies clothing firm. I have been a Board member for over 10 years and chaired a number of Committees, Fundraising, Calendar, and the Cantor Danto Committees. My goal is a financially strong synagogue that is not totally funded by membership contributions. I have focused my efforts and will continue to focus on fundraising for the synagogue.

Martin

Bruce Martin | Vice President

Bruce Martin
Being a Board Member at Beth Emeth has given me a completely new insight into how our shul works.
My parents were founding members of the shul and thus, Beth Emeth has always been and continues to be a central part in my life. As a Board Member, I have gained a greater appreciation of the importance of all our members and how they can each positively impact Beth Emeth.
As Membership Chairman, I, with the help of a talented and dedicated committee instituted many initiatives to attract new members. As well, I planned programs in hopes of strengthening the ties of all our members to the shul.   As your Vice-President, membership recruitment and retention will continue to be my number one priority.
I look forward to serving on your Executive and working to ensure a strong and secure future for Beth Emeth. I would like to thank my wife Cathy and my three sons for their support.

Bernard Schwartz, C.A. | Treasurer

As a Chartered Accountant, I have 27 years of experience providing financial and operating advice to clients and working with them to overcome tough challenges.  During my career, my clients have included many not-for-profit organizations such as Jewish Family & Child Services and National Council of Jewish Women.  I understand the balance that an organization such as BEBY must achieve between the programs that it provides and fiscal responsibility.
On a personal note, Riva and I have been members of BEBY since we were married in 1983.  We have 3 sons - Rob (21), David (19) and Matthew (16).  While this will be my first experience volunteering at BEBY, other volunteer experience includes my current position as a member of the Applications Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and as a participant in many volunteer tax clinics where I prepared tax returns for people on social assistance.
As a new Board member I will bring a fresh perspective to the table as well as valuable input in the areas of budgeting and finance.

In 1975 Alexander enrolled in the Mykola Lysenko Lviv State Conservatory in the faculty of operatic-symphonic conducting. An accomplished pianist, while still a student at the Conservatory he worked as accompanist for the ballet of the Lviv Opera.

Upon his graduation from the Conservatory in 1980 Alexander worked as conductor of the Kharkiv Theatre of Operetta. From 1984 to 1986 he taught at the D. Sichinsky Music School in Ivano-Frankivsk and conducted its student symphony orchestra.
